Moving a gas meter

Has anyone RECENTLY had this done?

According to Powergen the rules have changed (what rules?) and they no longer do it - but a company called Fulcrum does.

Needless to say they only work Mon - Fri office hours and are only contactable on an 0870 number.

Has any RECENTLY had their gas meter moved by their supplier (which supplier was it?) or this company?

My reason for moving it is it is in the middle of a cupboard floor and is always getting bashed by the ironingboard/ladder/hoover etc... and if it were gone from there I'd have better use us of the space.

How much would this cost to do - and would I be permitted to get a Corgi fitter to do it instead?

    Hi.

We had our gas meter moved from in the cupboard to outside the house. This was also done by Fulcrum. I think we asked Scottish Power (our gas supplier) to forward the information. This was December 2003, though, but I don't think that will have changed.
As I remember it, the cost of moving the meter was around £300, but as they had to dig half the back yard up to find the gas stopcock, they refunded us £40 soon after, for the inconvenience. I didn't mind anyway, they were doing all the work :p

There were varying prices, depending on how far you wanted it moving from the original position(they'll only go 2meters from orig position), or if there were any other big problems, e.g digging through concrete to fit a meter in the ground (that cost about £900!!).

As it involves switching off the gas at a main pipe (not just at the meter) I think it will be Transco (Fulcrum) who will have to deal with it.

Powergen should take the details and forward them to Transco, who will send a pack out (mine was called "Altering The Position Of Your Gas Supply").

Hope I've been of some help :)
