Protective film

I've just got a shiny new laptop, which I'd quite like to keep shiny and new! I've seen sort of clingy protection film on things before - quite soft, PVC-type film that just seems to peel off without leaving any marks behind.
Does anyone know where I might get this, and whether it's safe to use with a computer. What I'd be slightly concerned about is that it might be static, and maybe this wouldn't be good for the laptop? I have seen companies advertising screen protectors and the like, but for specific makes of gadget, and usually only to protect the screen, not the lid.
Thanks in advance.
