National Insurance Exception

Hi everyone,
I recently sent off my exception application and havn't yet received confirmation of this.
Trouble is, they state payment must be made no more than 28 days later after bill date. Can't get hold of them by phone. This date is rapidly approaching, any suggestions?
Thanks

Which phone number are you trying to call? Is there one on the HMRC website from which you could get general advice? I have always found them very helpful.
Alternatively send a letter, recorded delivery, explaining that you're not paying until you hear back about your exemption application.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
hi,
thanks for your reply. i've now sent a letter explaining the situation, though if i get chance to go to the bank i will pay and try to get a refund later.
have tried the number they list, never an answer! doesnt even let me wait, just cuts me off.
worried about threatening the governement..... usually saying "i was waiting for your reply" or "you didnt answer the phone" doesnt work!0 -
I am wondering if you have the right number? Hopefully one of the more expert people will come along. Was it 0845 915 4655 you used? That's the number I found on the claim form, but there may be a better / alternative one. Certainly if you are getting cut off straight away it would be worth contacting your local HMRC office and querying it.Signature removed for peace of mind0

an update for you all - ended up paying the ni to make sure we dont get penalised.
still no confirmation of exception and have had no response to my letter chasing it up. there's no way both letter got lost! sometimes i wonder if they care - no private company would get away with things like this
gonna send another letter requesting a reply and see what happens0
