Hi
My 5 year old Dell Dimension developed a distortion problem after downloading service pack 3, the problems have now become worse.
In an attempt to resolve the initial problem 4 broad vertical bands on the screen I uninstalled service pack 3, that didn't help so I uninstalled the device driver (radion pro 9800) then reinstalled it, still no joy. I have since reinstalled XP because rolling back wont work and still not working properly.
If I un plug the radion pro then plug it in again the screen is ok for a while. I have also tried another monitor but same result so not the monitor.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff

Sounds like a problem with the graphics card and/or graphics card socket. I doubt it's got anything to do with installing SP3. If possible try another graphics card."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

The original graphics card is somewhere in a box?? Who knows where mind you, I moved house 9 months ago and still have some unpacked boxes, will search for and and swap them around.
Thanks superscraper0 -

Before you reseat the graphics card next time its worth checking to see if the graphics card is slowly moving out of the slot. If it is this could just be skrink. Not sure what you can do to hold it down but you would need to identify what is actually pushing the card out...0 -
i reckon your graphics card is on its way out.....if it is then there is nothing you can do
it could be running way to hot.....clean the fans etc see if that helps but damage may already be doneIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Thanks Guys
I cannot find the orignal Graphics Card however removed the Radion card thats installed then refitted it.
Screen now OK and fan is working OK.
Around the same time as the problem occurred I'd opened up the PC and fitted a new battery to the motherboard as a warning sign had come up a few times, this might have caused the card to dislodge slightly.
Thanks for your help, I wouldnt have thought to take the graphics card out as I put the problem down to downloading servicepack 3.
Chears
Jeff
