Time Barr on payment?

I ordered a fire from Tesco online about a month ago. Delivery was taken of it last week and the confirmation email said payment would be taken on dispatch of the item.

I recieved the fire over a week ago, and no payment has been taken as yet. Is there a limit on the length of time they can take before taking payment?

There is a limit but it is in terms of many years from what I have read elsewhere.

This is something that has happened to others, some people have had things debited up to a year afterwards.

I would expect that Tesco will debit your account soon. You have authorised the transaction, all that remains is for Tesco to take the money.

Make sure you put the money aside if it is paid by credit card as they will be within their rights, even if they don't take it until next year. Don't do what some others on here have done and be caught out when it does eventually appear on your statement, because it will.

could he not report it lost/stolen then they wouldnt be able to debit it,

and if they chased him he could pay it back, ie move it to a high intrest savings account until they chase then pay and keep the intrest :D

No in a word. Even if he reported the card lost/stolen the new card would be associated with the old one and the debit would follow.

Isn't there a question on the interest-free period here? Depending on how long it takes to put on the transaction, the OP might not get their bill until more than the 56 days have elapsed and so be charged interest. I think the company will have to use a transaction date in the future to avoid this problem. Any comments?

  • On a credit card you get a statement monthly. It is from the statement date that you get so many days to pay - therefore pay in full before the due date - result no interest charge.
If OP paid by debit card he should already have funds on account to meet debit as no interest free period applies.
