Virgin Atlantic Amex vs regular Amex

I've got a Virgin Atlantic Amex card as I earn Virgin Flight club miles and we were hoping to go to America next summer so thought it would help but now I'm wondering if I'd be better off with a Amex cash back card instead.

Does anyone know how they compare? I get 1 mile for £1.
