Credit Card for 18 year old

Hi,

I've recently turned 18, not going to Uni, and would like to get my first credit card.

The banks I currently hold account with have sent me info through, to apply etc, but only if I'm going to uni - they don't seem to be interested in an 18 year old that's going out to work.

Does anyone know of where the best place is to get a CC for an 18 year old?

Don't want a huge limit, or anything like that - just want it for large online purcases and in case of emergancies.

TIA

Hi there, when I was 18 i applied for 2 creditcards: Natwest (my bank) and Capital one, Natwest gave a £750 limit, and CapitalOne gave a £500 limit. Now I am 19 and have just applied for and been excepted for a Virgin card with the limit of £1000. and an egg card with the limit of £500 hope that helps

When I was 18 I had an egg card with a limit of £750, I had a wage of £12K with a car on hire purchase.

    Now I'm on £24K (Age 20, with a joint mortgage) I have:

    - Platinum AMEX with £2400 (£0 Balance, Paid in full each month)
    - Barclaycard Oyster with £4500 (£350 Balance, Paid in full each month)
    - SkyCard with £2000 (£0 Balance, Paid in full each month)

Make sure you use your card well, it could help you on your way for future credit!

The best place to obtain your first credit card from is your own bank as they already have a financial relationship with you. You've statistiscally more chance of being accepted by your own bank and getting a better credit limit than by an organisation who doesn't know you, especially as you have no previous credit history. That doesn't mean to say that all other companies will refuse you though.

If you wanted to borrow a tenner, who would you ask....... a friend/relative or a complete stranger ?
