i am coming off a dissability benefit and will become self employed soon doing 16hrs a week work,
i will claim the dissability element working tax credit and i will also start to cohabit with my partner with whome i have a teenage child with.
my partner works full time and earns approx £24k a year.
what kind of joint tax credit figure can we expect to be recieving bearing in mind i will be on a low income.
no doubt we will be penalised for cohabiting .
i have tired www.entiledto website and the Tax website and i get different figures,.
if anyone can give me a ball park figure i wolud be most gratefull

Your claim will be done as a couple. Your partners income will be taken into account. TBH, depending on what level of profit you expect to get, I suspect the payout for WTC will be very little. The entitledto website is good enough for a ballpark figure.0

You would probably get about £10 a week as you will be classed as a couple on 30k.
To get the dissability element you would have to be on middle or high rate dla.0 -

That is not correct. Those on lower rate care qualify, as well as those who have been on IB long term. There are also other categories that qualify, broadly speaking who are at a disadvantage in the workplace.Gone ... or have I?0 -
You will not receive any WTC on an income of £24K+, although you will receive some CTC (assuming the child is in full time education).Gone ... or have I?0

Does that mean i have been getting the wrong amount then or is this bit correct as i get low rate care and dd gets high.
1 dissability element £2540
1 severe dissability element £1022.. Sorry to hijack thread.0 -

No, you only get the disability element once, and the severe disability element for each person at middle or higher rate.Gone ... or have I?0 -
The severe disability element is only awarded to those on the higher care component of DLA.
The 'standard' disability element is for those on lower and middle rate care companents.0 -

The standard disability element is not just for those on care - also for those on DLA mobility components.
It is only the severe disability that is linked to the care component.

That is true but the point I was making was that the Severe Disability component is only for those on the higher care component.
Pages 31 - 33 of the guidance notes give you information of those who qoulify for disability elements.0
