A&L rejected my application: what to do next?

Hi,

I´ve only recently moved to the UK (@ the end of 2007), so I haven´t much of a credit history over here.

I am currently with Barclays, earn close to a six digit salary a year so thought I´d be a good customer to Alliance & Leicester. Well, I was obviously wrong since, today, they informed me via email that my application for their Premier Direct Current account got declined. No reasons given. So far, so bad.

I am now looking for an alternative current account that pays an attractive interest rate. The account offered by Coventry BS seems to be the highest paying alternative to A&L, right? What I am a bit anxious about is that I keep on applying for current accounts with banks continuing to reject my applications and that this might lead to an even worse credit history. Does it? Should I be concerned about this?

Shame, I really wanted to get the 8.5% on the first 2.5k in the A&L account.

Thanks for your thoughts on my questions above.

Cheers,
DUS

Well, since nobody cared to answer, I now applied for another current account, this time with Halifax. No idea if it will negatively influence my credit history if Halifax rejects my application as well.

Seems UK banks no longer need cash if they keep on rejecting "good" customers. Time to buy more of their shares? ;)

Recently I have been in the same situation as you, and then I came across RBS. Apply in a branch, to have a chance chat to the manager. Do mention your credit rating and your income; they offered me Royalties Gold linked to a Royalties Saver, which pays around 4.1% interest and is instant access. Be ready to have in the first 2-3 months a cash card, but once I’ve paid in 2 salaries they invited me for review to upgrade my card to a normal debit card and did invite me to apply for a credit card and a loan as well – apart from getting upgraded to debit card I didn’t apply for nothing else, because I don’t need at the moment.
Bad credit but high income peoples is a segment of business that has been pursued by RBS, as I was tipped off before I went in, although I was told that the adverse credit history has to be somewhere around 2 years old to be considered.
  • I've recently been turned away by A+L. I wanted to swap banks and the section on accounts recommended an A+L account.
I applied online and was amazed to receive an email saying i'd been unsuccessful!
The reason they gave was that they couldn't find recent electoral register history of me, i duely explained that i'd been renting and hadn't been on the register for a while. I have recently brought my first property (mortgage with A+L) and still feel surprised they've rejected me
