staircase construction - how much in £££, please?

would someone please advise me how much it would cost (approx) for me to pay a chippie/joiner to install a wooden staircase?

it would be a u-shaped stair with risers actually on the turn, if that makes sense. wood used would probably be pine.

just an approx guess would be great, as i'm not sure if it would be £1,000 or £5,000.

We are looking at getting a staircase from here, and getting a local joiner to fit it. At the moment I have called SIX joiners to quote for building a new staircase and fitting, or just fitting costs and only two have called back, so far no-one has offered to quote.

What is it with roofers/carpenters don't they want to work???? I've been looking for a roofer for 4 months now, we've had 4 come around to inspect the job and the only one we got a verbal quote out of we had to chase and ring four or five times.
  • wow, thanks littlesos. great site and a great help.

You need a carpenter, not a joiner, to fix a flight of stairs. You or they will need a joiner to make them. Get some recommendations for carpenters and contact them.

It really depends on how the staircase comes delivered. If the winders have been fitted and the actual whole flight has been put together dry in the workshop, then it shouldnt take too long. When I make a staircase, I always dry fit everything.
Have the trimmers been put in, or is that to be included in the fitting costs?

They have all been carpenter/joiners, and not one of them said they couldn't do the job.

You need either a Carpenter or a Joiner (which I am) as both will be able to fit the stairs.
