can you take prescribed medication in hand luggage

hi all

im flying out to majorca next week and i wanted to know if you can take prescribed medication in your handbag.

i take 2 tablets for high bp, i dont really want to put it in the suitcase just in case they go missing.

Personally, I would also bring my prescription (or a copy), so that (i) I could prove that I was neither a junky nor a drug dealer, and (ii) if anything went wrong I could get the pills replaced.

I carry medicines in my bag every time I fly I haven't been stopped yet and whilst I haven't actually declared them I have been stopped for a routine search and the tablets were just put back inside my bag.

I also carry an injectible medicine but if I do have a hold bag I tend to store it in there, although I have carried that in my hand luggage as well and not been stopped.

Most airlines say to carry any medicines in hand luggage just incase you get delayed or the case goes missing. Make sure they are in a see through plastic bag tho.

why would a strip of tablets need to be in a see thru plastic bag? the safest and most obvious way to carry your tablets, would be in the box they come from the pharmacy, as then the label is printed on there with your name, which matches that they are your prescribed medicine..

you wouldn't believe the number of tablets my wife has to take with her. I always make her take two lots.One in her hand luggae and another lot in her checked luggage. Just in case. But she has never had a problem with tablets in her handbag

thats what ive seen other people doing when ive flown, they go in a plastic bag

I always put mine in my plastic bag but thats just because I put them with my liquids so I know that I've definitely got them I also always carry a repeat prescription in my purse just to prove that they are mine etc. Had no problems entering the States, Spain or SA with them.

I carry mine in my hand luggage & it's never been a problem. I tend not to keep them in boxes to save room but know that's what most places suggest. I carry a spare prescription in case I get stopped at customs, it's useful to prove to a foreign doc that you are on that medication if you need to buy more for any reason too. That, or the boxes are also handy to show a dr if you get ill whilst away, so that they understand what you're already taking.
