Store Card Late Payment Fees

Hi,
Was wondering if anyone has any input on the following.
I have received a letter from GE Money (Burton's store card) stating that I owe them a £12 fee + interest on the outstanding balance. My question is can I dispute this based on the fact that they never actually sent me a statement of account beforehand ie (what is owed, when min payment has to be received by),
I realise that these cards are generally a rip off, and I do usually pay all my debts in full monthly by DD, but this one slipped past me. Surely though It must be the reponsibility of the credit provider to issue a statement of account prior to issuing late payment fees and interest.
Thanks
Mark

You can try but I'm not sure if you will have any luck. I had a similar problem years ago where I didn't get my statement one month and hence forgot to make a payment. I'd suggest setting up a direct debit for the minimum payment to ensure you dont miss any more.
Is this your first statement from them? If so then you might stand a better chance of getting them to refund the fees, perhaps using setting up the direct debit to show it was a genuine mistake due to not receiving the statement.0 -
You can try - there are only 2 possible answers

If you call them up & explain the situation you will probably get the fee's reimbursed if its your first offence!0
