Can anyone recommend any BR friendly broadband options?

Since we moved into our rented since our BR, we have been trying to transfer our AOL broadband over to our new house. I reckon about 10 calls in 8 weeks have still seen no joy!
So far I have had the following from their helpline: 'it'll take three weeks, use our dial-up', 'our systems are down', 'I can't see a web page', 'the link isn't active', 'the phone line isn't active yet', ' you are currently being migrated to a new server, phone back in 5 days' etc etc.
Aaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!! AOL are driving me potty!! It is so ironic that the automated voice says 'moving house couldn't be simpler'. Having looked on the internet however, it seems AOL have a bit of a reputation with house moves.

Therefore, the time possibly has come to look elsewhere!! We are not tied down any more to a contract and currently pay £15 p/m so it seems a good opportunity anyway to find a cheaper deal - maybe a telephone/broadband combo??. Broadband is necessary, mainly for my wife's job as she needs to perform a lot of downloads for various resources (she is BR too BTW).
The question is: are there any broadband companies who don't perform credit checks and are likely to be BR friendly? Is there an option to pay a contract up front? Has anyone tried these pay as you go dongle thingies..?

Any tips greatfully received to end the AOL related fretting!!!!

My suggestion if your really stuck is to grab one of the mobile telephone company "3" dongle, thats PAYG, but I dont think you should be turned down from any ISP as your not obtaining credit as your paying monthly on a rolling bill kind of thing.

  • Hi,

Ive just signed up with Virgin media, they credit checked me and saw a bankruptcy on my file.I had to fax them a copy of my discharge certificate along with a £100 deposit.
I believe thats the norm for virgin.

He aint Discharged I dont think. The best way is try it and see theres loads of ISPs out there and they all want your buisness, it might be that they will accept 3 months payment up front. Best bet is to speak with them they can only say no.

I use BT and its a phone/Internet package and its pretty good service, plus there indian call center are getting better as there english has greatly improved recently compared to when there call centre was moved over there.

PlusNet are a good reliable company but are a bit strict on there fair use policy.

Heard nothing good about the likes of TalkTalk but again everyone is different some Hate BT but I have used them for years and wouldnt swap.

I hate Talk talk, they really messed us about when we moved. According to them we couldn't get online untill the end of this month. The broadband was very sporadic, the speed was up and down like a professional ladys underwear. Their phone service was iffy too.

We are now with Sky and have no problems with them so far.

I recently went with PlusNet, they don't credit check and the deal was really good. I've had no problems with them so far and I've been downloading a fair bit overnight (12 - 8) which is free usage...

    Hi

I have 3 broadband with dongle. You can go into phones for u or any mobile shop I think. The Dongle is 50.00 and you pay as you go. I.E 15.00 gives 2mb etc.

I chose pay monthly at 15.00 a month with 18 month contract BUT I got dongle free AND I get 3mb too.

My credit rating it terrible, and they passed me ok.

Coverage in Wales is good unlike Orange poor signal & which runs at dial up speed on dongle.

I used them a few years ago, but it was a second line for working from home, and it was great, back then you payed extra to get a better contention ratio ect, but good to know they are still offering a good service.

I am a huge talk talk advocate! I recommend them all the time. We have all inclusive 01 and 02 phone calls plus broadband for £25 per month. It did take a while to get the service going but we've really had no problems (if we did it falls under husband's responsibility so its NEVER been a problem to me hehehe). Oh and its also inclusive of line rental.

I don't know what Sky's official policy is on bankrupts etc but we are still with them (at least for the moment) and we pay £10 per month for unlimited downloads/uploads (subject to fair use policy) and upto 16MB speed (I think but I'm not very technically minded!) I have been with them for 3 years though.
