Universal Laptop AC Adapter

I need to replace the AC adapter on a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70. Ebay has a range of possible adapters but I am also interested in a universal adapter as we have several laptops in the house.
Are there problems with universal adapters which I need to be aware of? I have found one here

for only £13.99 which seems very cheap in comparison with Maplins, for instance.
Thanks in advance for any advice

You need to make sure its the same voltage etc as your laptop,

  • I would be wary about plugging anything into my laptop that is not the proper adapter. There was a BBC news story on this a couple of days back, basically warning you to stay away from them

I agree - different laptops require different voltages, different currents, and different power ratings. I don't see how an a "universal" adapter could possibly detect which current/voltage/power was required, and I can't imagine that it would be possible to have knobs or switches that would allow you to select exactly the right settings for every available laptop.

I would definitely stick to genuine manufacturers' chargers...
