I'm feeling like Mr. Micawber at the moment, holding on for something to turn up, which might just be the debt collectors..
Could those that know point me to threads/info on what debt collectors are and are not allowed to do when they pitch up, what rights they have /we have....
cheers, from behind the sofa

Have you contacted anybody about your circumstances? any of the free debt helplines in my sig below will be able to give you more detailed advice on how best to manage your situationWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Also, it's very unlikely they will actually turn up on your doorstep, it's another scare tactic they use to get you to pay up.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Hi Phil
thanks for those, yes I am taking advice but am behaving a bit like Mr.A.hitler in the bunker scene in 'Downfall' waiting for the tanks to arrive...just that they won't be MY tanks!0 -
As peachy said though I very much doubt anyone will turn up on your doorstep....before I went Br back in march I lost count the number of cute little postcards I had sent through the post saying a representitive would be calling at our home.....nobody ever did come (boo-hoo!)We all die. They do turn up. i had moorcroft DCA turn up over a credit card with halifax for £3000. he pretty much let himself walk in.. he gave me a paying book and basically told me i was paying *** this much.. paid for 2 months i think then sent him a txt message ( had his mobile on pay book) saying under rule blah blah i refuse you to step on my property shall you continue i will contact the police and have you done for harrasment and i will only deal with this debt thru post ..
got a letter thru 2 weeks later stating they was no longer dealing with this debt. LOL heard nothing since..
tho i go BR in 2 weeks.
Sorry to take over your thread. but from my experiance some debt collectors do turn up and moorcroft never threatened me with it. they just turned up !Bankrupt on 26/03/2009 10:30am No-219 of 2009

Thanks soo much MSE Br forum :T0 -
Debt I think you were extremely unlucky. In the time I have been on this board I could count on one hand the number of posters that have had them turn up. I had a dozen or so of these from different people and no one turn up.
They have no rights at all, in fact I think the paper boy has more rightsBSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
To the OP, have any of your creditors taken legal action yet, not threatened, actually done it as in a CCJ etc?
If not they may send people but as its already been said that is rare and against OFT guidelines (i think its OFT) without prior appointment
In short if they dont have the backing of the court, they have no right to be on your property with the exeption of implied right.
If they do turn up tell them to leave if they dont ring the policeThats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….

no court action as yet, these are old debts from a newly failed iva (what happened to the money I did manage to pay into it?), am happy to string things out for as long as possible in some ways as will probably go br sooner or later, just wanted to be armed with as many delaying tactics as possible whilst I try to resolve some other issues, thanks for all advice and support0
