You spray onto the upholstery and use a microfibre cloth to wipe off (you can work in with your fingers as well). Sometimes on carpet, it dries with a white dust, which you simply vacuum off.

This is used in the car and bus/coach industry . . . it's not cheap, but will work and you can use in the house as well.

Yes, good stuff but do a search and use Ideal as a last resort, they're too expensive and take forever to deliver. I got some of this and "Spray and Shine" from an eBay seller and it was far cheaper with 24 hour delivery!
Once the seats are clean, as mentioned in a previous post, get some seat covers. http://www.tailoredcarseatcovers.co.uk/ These are not cheap but fit perfectly are v. good quality, fairly easy to remove and wash in the machine. Just washed mine and they're as good as new.
