Recover Hard disk that has flipped to RAW!

Options
Slave HDD has suddenly flipped to RAW from NTFS. Is shown to be healthy under Disk management. Can't chkdsk 'cos in Raw state. Is there a prog to recover disk with data in-situ?

Seems no one had the answer for this one! However, set up to chkdsk on master drive (C:) for next restart. On restart it didn't check C: but D:? and resolved the issue! Had to reset for it to check C: on another restart. however, another problem has just started happening - I'll start a new thread!

Well its a problem accessing the hdd, but you already knew that!, if other prob's are occurring check you have the jumpers set correctly for master/slave.

if this has appeared for no reason then your heading for hardware failure , either one of the following would cause it.

someone messing with pc when your not there.
harddrive failing or one of its conmpnents cables...yes it can be a cable.
psu on way out pushing too much or too little juice.
motherboard chipset or drying cap which is more likely.
cdrom if on same cable as hd.

    back up now
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Found a new free program that does data recovery called Testdisk which runs under pretty much every OS there is as well as having a Live CD version.

    http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

    Does..
    TestDisk can
    • Fix partition table, recover deleted partition
    • Recover FAT32 boot sector from its backup
    • Rebuild FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 boot sector
    • Fix FAT tables
    • Rebuild NTFS boot sector
    • Recover NTFS boot sector from its backup
    • Fix MFT using MFT mirror
    • Locate ext2/ext3 Backup SuperBlock
    • Undelete files from FAT filesystem
    • Copy files from deleted FAT, NTFS and ext2/ext3 partitions.
