I want to convert my old Dell PC hard drive for external use. Its a 160 gb seagate
I was about to buy online but can anyone tell me how the case size thing works? do I get 2.5" or 3.5"

I think generally, if your drive came out of a laptop it will be a 2.5"; if it came out of a desktop it will be a 3.5".Charlie0

you have to check what type of hard drive it is too.... though you have said "old" I would assume it is an IDE drive, but double check to make 100% sure0

The 2.5 inch drives are 3 " wide if you measure them and the 3.5 inch drives are 4 " wide.
An ide drive will have the long connector at one end with around 39 little pin things sticking out of it,you need to get the external housing for ide if it is an ide drive or sata if it is an sata drive as the way the drive fits in the housing is different for each.0
