Travellers Cheques

Mornin all,

Ive read all the discussions about the best cards to take abroad etc so i dont need any advice on those - im fully up to speed on them....

What i want to know is, how widely used are travellers cheques now adays? I havent had a non-city foreign holiday in about 6yr so have always relied on bank cards. But this time im leaning back towards travellers cheques as i know the hotel reception cashes them and there are a few Bureau de Changes about (try saying that in a geordie accent :o ).

Ive read the articles by Martin but I dont feel they cover off T.C's. Do you still order them from your bank? Are there any more competitive suppliers?

I know all i need to know about nationwide cards and no fees abroad etc so please keep it Travellers cheque related.

Thanks in advance :j

Even in America, the home of TCs, they are becoming less acceptable.

Anywhere else and you are reliant on banks, money changers & hotels to change them - and in Europe that's either a major PITA or costs you LOTS of money

Widely used? - varies from place to place but mostly not very. Some places you will struggle to use them and in many you will pay a fee when you do find somewhere. Hotel receptions are usually a bad place if it involves a different currency. Other places (USA in particular) - no problems

Order from a bank or BdeC or even over the counter. Rates will be very similar (within a few thou) to cash at the same place so use that as a guide.

We're going to Majorca to the same resort ive been too many times and always used T.C's but its been a fair while since we went.

I suppose if they are passed their heyday then cards are the way forwards for us then. I'd never dream of using T.C on a city holiday due to the wide availability of cash machines, but i think im just stuck in the 'experience' rut of always using Travellers Cheques for resorts.

Ill be bold and brave and take the bank card :rotfl: :rotfl:
