Zone Alarm install problems ...

Hi there,
I've had Zone Alarm (free version) on my p.c. for ages and had no problems. However, I decided to see if there was an update the other day and as there was I tried to upgrade it. Now I'm getting a little message in red in the top right-hand corner of the Zone Alarm page telling me "system error, please reboot". I did this and it's still not installing properly and I'm still getting the same message.
I've tried doing a "clean" install, turning off the Windows firewall ... leaving it off, turning it back on again, all combinations!
I have Windows XP SP2 installed and also have Norton Anti-Virus which, again, I've turned on and off to no avail.
Wish I'd left well alone now! Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mimi

when uninstalled did you restart the pc? if not then do it and reinstall it.
i had the same problem months ago and restarting helped after uninstalling. that was before the new version of zonealarm was releasedProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems

Thanks for the replies ...
I wasn't sure if I'd tried switching off the p.c. after uninstalling Zone Alarm (as I've had so many attempts!), so just tried it and still getting the same message up.
Also tried installing Syngate and it says it's encountered a problem and cannot install, then freezes on me. There seems to be some sort of conflict somewhere ... wonder if it could be Norton anti-virus??
Never had a problem installing anything with XP since I had it installed a few months ago ...Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Yep that will be Norton more than likely clashing with sygate
as some AVs dont work together/alongside and the same goes with firewalls.0 -
norton software are known to be troublesome. have you paid yours or is it a free trial?
do this. download latest version of zonealarm. do not install it. close down your pc. disconnect connection to internet. restart pc. close down all virus packages. reinstall zonealarm and see what happens.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems

Free Zonealarm is Ok as long as you dont plan to use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) as the free one wont work with ICS...0 -
Don't install it anyway, if you already have version 5.5.094.000. Problems reported with latest version. So, leave it.0
