Car insurance after a ban?

I had some points on my licence for speeding, then I got done with permitting someone to drive without insurance, I got banned for 6 months due to the totting up of points procedure.
I get my licence back in 6 weeks, am going to look at a car tomoro (dad is testing it for me etc) just a cheapy.

I'm just after any tips on how to reduce the cost of insurance, are there any companies who specialise in insuring in my circumstances?

I don't think you are going to get very much sympathy on these boards. It is going to be very expensive and there probably isn't anything you can do about it. Sorry.

Specialist insurers and brokers I would have thought. The mainstream insurers and generally scared of anything out of the normal, but more specialist companies will look at the facts. This is what I found with modified cars - the mainstream companies would quote silly prices, but the specialists actually understood the situation.

The holier than thou brigade will no doubt be piling in with comments like "people like you should have your car crushed" and other meaningless crap some time soon.

How do I find these specialist insurers?

Have a look in the back of a magazine like Max Power etc. They usually have a good advertising section for specialist insurers to ring around.

It will be a telephone job though due to the complexity. The internet quote engines cannot handle stuff like that bery well.

as above, specialist insurers...

There was a guy at may work palce who got 14month ban for DD, and at the end of it insured his car for less than i was paying at the time!

Convictions dont automatically mean high premium, just gotta find the right insurer.
