hi all
Im in the process of puttting a new bathroom.
i have bathroom wall that is stud wall which had lathe and plaster from floor to ceiling. I knocked out one third of the old lathe and plaster becuase it was flaky and nailed in its place some plasterboard. However, the bottom two thirds of the wall projects 10mm. I know normally u only put around 2mm of skim on plasterboard but would it pose a problem for me if i made 10mm so it was flush with the bottom half ?

Hi,
Not with multi-finish plaster...10mm is too deep for that. Looking at the product info one-coat plaster would be ok for that depth. Or alternatively bonding coat plaster then multi-finish plaster on top which i think would be my preferred option. See http://www.british-gypsum.com/products/thistle_plaster_products.aspx for product info.

Hi Andrew B
Yes you're right one coat looks like it could do the job. I also came across this PDF
http://www.british-gypsum.com/PDF/LIT_Plaster%20selector%20chart.pdf
On there it indicates that Bonding can also be used up to 11mm.
who knows whats the best solustion. I reckon its a case of trying and and reporting back my experience.

Is it not possible to screw another 9.5 board onto this new one?
Then apply skim.0 -
hi cargo
Yes you're right that is another option, although my concern there would be that it might get a bit heavy. But then again perhaps it would anyway with 9 mm of bonding or 'one coat' on top of plasterboard.

To be honest, if I turned up at yours to do this job not knowing before hand,I would double board it if there is enough room to allow for it.
