Need discount flight to Dallas

 Hi I am hoping to visit my daughter in Dallas for about 5 weeks before christmas, I will be travelling alone and can get to most major airports. Question is it cheaper to fly a few weeks before christmas or won't it matter, my guess is it will. Also any recomendations of where to search out good flight prices, all new to me this!! I can travel any dates/days and length of time there is quite open ended I definately want to go before christmas and be home for christmas.

I just did a quick search on American Airlines UK website and got Heathrow to Dallas for £535 return inc taxes departing November 6th and returning December 18th for direct flights.
That's not a bad starting point, but you can get it for as low as £304 return with United Airlines if you're prepared to change flights once on each leg of your journey.

best thing is to look away from the main London airports like Heathrow.

I know that American and Continental are moving Dallas over to heathrow, so the prices may go up
Try looking at North west airlines or Delta -it may come up cheaper
BA fly there as well and if you try and book in advance before the seasonal prices kick in ( normally around Oct ) you may get a good deal

Flying just before Christmas is going to be expensive as everybody else is going to do that as well to get home to their families etc. It's usually the week before Christmas right up to the 24th that's quite expensive.

My suggestion would be to fly back mid-week, 16th/17th latest. Also, when flying out, avoid Thanksgiving (last Thursday in November) as that's a very bad time to travel in the US...
