Websites feedback

Hi

I am needing to earn some additional money (I am currently on Incapacity Benefit and want to find something to do from home) and have been thinking of building websites.

I have no official qualifications and am not a professional, nor do I have a clue about Dreamweaver etc. I also well aware there are loads of companies and people out there who do this on a professional level already so much competition!

However I have recently built and designed a couple of my own websites (using 'template' style online software) and one for a friend for their new business, which I did free for her.

My friend says she may know of someone else who would actually pay me to build them a site which set me thinking as she said she was happy (as I built her site free) for me to use it as an example of my work.

It took me a couple of days to put the site together, on this occasion my friend actually provided me with most of the content and I just put it in its respective place and designed the page styles and linked the buttons etc.


The website is basic (learning more as I go) but would suit the kind of market who cannot afford to fork out a lot of money (local church group, creche, sports club, personal profile for a job seeker, youth club, small business, dog club, etc if you get the idea) or just want a web presence with a simple one page or multi page appearance.


A lot of the 'comunication' could go on via email (how I built my friends website, she sent me attatchments and pictures I copied and pasted etc) although I would be more than prepared to meet up for a formal chat.

I was wondering how easy this may be to turn into an income and what its potential appeal may be? How much would I know to charge, how would I know what the 'customer' wants? etc etc etc???

Any potential feedback or ideas helpful.

Hi Welcome!!!!

Like you said there are lots and lots of web people out there, and they also do it for cheap, most of them are uni students that write the code out in a day!!!! :P

As we are in the digital age most business have website so you are really targeting a small % of those that dont.

A know a few companies out there that will do it for as low as £50 with unlimited pages and etc.

Also with Google and yahoo making template based websites, home users can do it with a few click of the mouse.

Whats the website you did for you friend?

Thanks for the reply.

The websites I have built have a specific theme, the one for my friend is about Fibro Myalgia as she has set up a new business (non profit 'charity') to support group people with the coindition or those related somehow to it and also to raise awareness of it.

My own 2 sites are based on the paranormal :eek: and the ghost hunting and research that I and my other team have done over past 5 years.

Can't give you any advice, but was interested in getting a link to the site about fibromyalgia as my aunt is a sufferer. So sorry to go off topic, but would you mind posting a link?

what host do you use and what website builder?
i develop budget sites also, and may have some cheap providers for you.
