Gas Transport Charge from E-on

I am in the process of switching my Gas supply from BG to E-On. E-on have quoted me an annual £42 gas transporter charge as they say the actual gas infrastructure is not owned by BG.

However having talked to BG (who confirmed they don't own the infrastructure) they don't charge this fee nor do the say they bury this fee in the unit cost. Can anyone confirm this charge?

Thanks

British Gas don't own any of the infrastructure in the UK, but the principle is right.
If you are on an IGT network some suppliers will charge you extra.
British Gas don't, and nor do some others (see here).

Yeah most people's gas transport is done by National Grid (previously called Transco) and if this is the case, you don't get charged. If your gas comes in by an independent company (IGT) then you sometimes have to pay this extra charge.

who owns the pipes that transport the gas to your home is dependant upon where you are in the country. As Ntaional grid no longer own all the pipes.http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Gas/About/How+Gas+is+Delivered/

The twelve LDZs are managed within eight gas distribution networks. Following the sale by National Grid of four of the distribution networks, the owners of the distribution networks are now:
    • North West, London, West Midlands and East of England (East Midlands LDZ & East Anglia LDZ) are owned and managed by National Grid (the area outlined in black)
    • Scotland & South of England (South LDZ & South East LDZ) are owned and managed by Scotia Gas Networks – operating as Scotland Gas Networks and Southern Gas Networks respectively
    • Wales and the West (Wales LDZ & South West LDZ) is owned and managed by Wales and West Utilities
    • North of England (North LDZ & Yorkshire LDZ) is owned by Northern Gas Networks, who have contracted operational activities to United Utilities Operations
