Comet Guarantee rip off

We bought a US style fridge freezer from Comet last August,it was not in stock and we were re fitting the kitchen,so it was actually delivered on 26/10. A couple of weeks ago we received notification that the guarantee expires on 26/8,I assumed this was a mistake, apparently not:mad:
Seems that Comet starts the guarantee at point of sale, not date of delivery.....they tried to tell me that this was common practice, and that although they realised that 8 weeeks was a lot to lose from a 12 month warranty, that was their policy.
I rang Curry's and John Lewis who both run their guarantees from delivery date. Even when I rang back Comet were adamant that they could not deviate from this policy even if other competitors were more customer focussed.
So the moral of this story is,if you are doing a kitchen refit or ordering an out of stock item dont buy from Comet.......or you will lose part of the statutory 12 month guarantee.
I will be checking with trading standards to see if I have any redress but Comet seem sure they were acting within their rights. Any one know anything about this area of consumer rights which may help?:D
TIA

Isn't there a 12 month manufacturer's guarantee you could claim on?
Besides, you have redress under the SoGA when items don't last as long as they 'should', which is almost always lnger than the guarantee period.0 -
It seems from your post that your fridge is still working.
Do you have reason to suspect it wont last another couple of months ?"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Question I wanted to ask was,did they hold the freezer for you,at any time, for your own convenience?
It's a bit confusing to call it a statutory 12 month guarentee.0 -
Hi,
I referred to it that way because that was how Comet referred to it when I contacted them about it.
They said the lead time was 4/6 weeks on the model we wanted, and did come into stock and available for delivery within that timescale, and we took the slot offered for delivery.
At no time when we were buying the freezer did Comet say the guarantee ran from date of purchase or we would probably have looked elsehwere and discovered then that other retailers(Curry's etc)operate a different policy.
I have no concrete reason to suspect any issues will arise within the timescale, but it is a model which unkniown to us has had problems(there is a thread about it on here!)so it is a possibility.
It is more the principle really.0
