Scored brake disk and MOT

Options
I have to take the car for MOT tomorrow and it has a scored brake disk. Can anyone tell me if this would be considered "excessive" for MOT purposes.

No idea... what are the pads like?

Let the MOT tester advise, just make sure you take it somewhere sensible...

The pads are fine, the disks and pads were only replaced last year - there is plenty left on them.

I can't think that you would have a problem. But I am not an MOT tester. They only look throught the wheels and the brakes have to be poor to fail.

May be someone will come on the thread with more something more helpful to advise you!

My gut feeling says they're ok :D

should be okay assuming it brakes straight...as in both wheels put out the same effort
  • Yeah, it seems to brake straight enough. At least I can't feel any tendency to pull to one side when braking.
  • If they cant see them they cant fail them, so as long as you dont have huge alloys on and it's visable dont worry. That is as long as the test on the rollers shows they are in balance and the level of braking is sufficent whcih shouldnt be a problem.

Unfortunately I have fairly large 18" alloys - the brake disks are clearly visible.

Either something (like a stone) has got stuck between the pad and disk or there is a hard bit of pad material lurking in the pad. Thats my guess anyway.
