just what IS 'all inclusive'?

thinking on from an email exchange with a friend, about their upcoming hols to Jamaica (envious grumble..), reminded me of a disappointing trip to Tunisia..

what do you consider as an all inclusive holiday? assuming the facilities exist at any chosen destination..

ALL food and drinks?

entertainments?

sport activities- scuba, jetski, paddle boats..

use of gym, and/or spa treatments (sauna, massage etc?)

transfers to/from airport.

shuttle bus to nearest town / touroist spots?

for me, AI is:

all food and drinks, stocked mini bar, room service, all non motorised sports, gym, entertainment

I would expect only to have to pay for spa treatments and motorised sports in a good AI

To me AI means read the brochure in detail and get everything you feel is essential in writing!

We had AI in St Lucia which actually turned out to be fantastic value with only scuba falling chargeable (even one hour waterski a day was included) and only one restaurant needing pre booking which often meant we couldn't actually get in. Everything else was perfect, including bar staff bringing us drinks without delays and no horrible wristbands. That's what I think of as AI.

That was AI when it first started becoming popular in the early 1990's - the goalposts have moved so much now research is necessary or disappointment may ensue.

usally the drinks dont start till 10am and only go on till 11pm. the drinks are very limited and usally local drinks so no jack daniels, just beer and wine , and vodka......

you would be shocked just how many people believe AI means the flight is included too...so many people ring me to book but when I quote with the flight do not believe it is not including as to them all inclusive is just that bless lol....I work for a tailor made company so when they search the hotel of course all they get up is AI...one didnt believe me despite me telling her and said I was stupid and was going to book it on the website...she did book it too as I saw her name on the recent bookings..always makes me wonder what she did and believed her flight was from at what time etc lol on our site the AI description of what it does include is given.

'All Inclusive' will vary from hotel to hotel.
Typically, the more you pay, the more you get.
Some hotels provide food & drink 24 hours, some only between certain hours.
Some hotels provide international drinks, some only local drinks.

What you get and what you will have to pay for should be clearly stated.
Never assume!
