A quick tip, I would just contact your local sorting office to see if you have anything there waiting. I have had several parcels sent back saying that the person didn't pick them up when they have in fact claimed it never arrived.
I think This is sometimes due to the postman not posting the slip, or it getting 'lost' amongst other post.
I have also known items take over a week/10 days to arrive, so all is not lost yet.
I would not agree that it is the Seller's responsibility to make a claim with Royal Mail as either the Buyer or Seller can iniate a claim for a lost item.
My personal view is that I would allways ensure an item was insured if it was over £30 and it is allways worth asking the seller about other options. If I hadn't paid for insurance, I wouldn't expect to get my money back if it didn't arrive.0 -

The contract of service exists between Royal Mail and the seller who has paid the postage. It is the seller's responsibility to sort this out.0 -
Personally I think you are too early to go down the route of "lost in the post" and starting a claim. If I were you I would be off down to sorting office before midday to check its not there. I would then wait at least until the Monday post, probably the Tuesday post before getting excited about it.
The caveat of course is that the seller has not started to get negatives for non delivery.
Also if they are still selling you should feel more confident that that there will be money in their PayPal account from recent sales.
Don't panic just yet, the RM can be a nightmare!!
His error was not using Special Delivery he will probably not be covered at all RM might refuse any payout because he did not use the correct service.0 -

As has been said the item is not yours until you have signed for it. It is the senders responsibility to ensure you receive the item. This is why I use PayPal at least you have some comeback.
Insurance is not for the buyer its for the seller. I would never pay for extra insurance assuming I was paying by PayPal.0 -

Totally with you here Hintza.
The fact that there are still some sellers and casual users of ebay that consider it up to the buyer to make sure an item is covered by the correct insurance is why I will not be paying by any other method than paypal funded by a credit card.
The fact that paypal consider it the sellers responsibility to ensure delivery yet the ebay protection programme have terms and conditions that make it harder for a buyer to claim for loss shows a two tier level of buying protection. I would not gamble my hard earned money on relying on the standard ebay protection.
Might I also say that I, along with most regular sellers on here no doubt, would not treat our buyers differently depending on how they pay. If one of my buyers claim non receipt of their item I would refund, regardless of their payment method, but it seems that not all sellers agree.

Going back to the OP.
As others have suggested it is always worth checking with the local sorting office as they will often hold onto large parcels whilst they wait to deliver them. However, if they say they do not have the parcel then I would certainly suggest starting a chargeback within the second week. However, if the seller stops selling or listing start the chargeback immediately in case he is clearing his paypal account.
Also just to confirm, you do not have to wait for the seller to reclaim from the RM, if you do then you would be out of time for the chargeback and could lose out entirely. The RM will not accept the claim until 15 working days (ie three weeks) and may take another 15 days to actually reimburse the seller.
Finally, the fact that the seller has not covered this item with sufficient insurance is not your concern. Paypal merely require him to prove delivery to you, if he cannot prove delivery he will lose the chargeback claim.

Have been to two local sorting offices and neither can trace the package. One even said that either the package had not been posted as yet or the number is not valid. But according to the Royal Mail website regestered post is not tracked untill the package is delivered.
If not received by Monday I will try the charge back facility.
Thank you all.

Although recorded tracking numbers don't usually update until the item is delivered I have had a couple of instances recently where there has been a different message displayed after a few days, so maybe in some instances the tracking is updated if there is a problem en route.
One of my parcels was showing as undelieved but in transit, and with a note saying that the address was incorrect and the item was being redirected (that was going to a major phone retailer!!) and on another occaison I had a wording that suggested the item was not delivered but was in transit.
I don't know why these messages showed up, maybe it was because in both cases the RD item didn't arrive until after day 8 and the RM felt the need to offer an excuse?

masonic wrote:Was that your cashback voucher? If so, then that's a terrible state of affairs. I wonder how many people will miss the deadline because they don't have the correct address. I've got to send off one of those for £150 next month - I think I'll play it safe and spring out a fiver for special delivery with insurance.
To the OP apologies for going off topic..
masonic, yes it was my phone cashback, it finally showed as delivered on day 10. The address I used was the exact address shown on the cashback voucher and the voucher said quite clearly that claims made to any other address might not be valid, so I was 100% careful.
It wasn't until after I sent it that I realised i might have been foolish in using RD and not SD. On this forum we always tell people to make sure they use the right one, yet I had sent in my only copy of a cashback voucher without which I would lose my cashback, and used RD. The cashback is due over £100 so I should have used SD, I was really cross at myself at the time.
