Shouldn't you be job searching rather than going on holiday? I know if I were unemployed I'd be working 24/7 finding a job, not claiming benfits whilst on the beach!

That's a little harsh, not exactly a two week break abroad

You will have to complete a "going away from home " booklet that will show where you are staying and how you will be 'available for work' during your holiday.

As it's in the UK you should be OK, provided that you give Jobcentre advance notice.

Call the Jobcentre well before you go and get this completed before you miss your signing day.

I work in JSA and if you be honest and tell them that you will be away (in the UK) and whilst away even though on a camping holiday you can still be treated as actively seeking and being available for work.

Providing of course you attempt to look for work whilst away.

You are allowed two weeks 'holiday' in the UK per rolling year if you are on JSA.

Just go in and tell them the dates and sign the requisite form, they will need a contact number for you and you should still get your money.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Maybe it's been booked for some time?

Maybe the OP's family need a holiday?

Maybe someone else has already paid for it?

As I mentioned in my post above, you are allowed to take two weeks holiday in the UK per year whilst you are on JSA providing you can be contacted.

Then do what I had to do the other week and cancel the holiday, I wasn't to chuffed about it but at the end of the day, finding a job is far more important. I have promised we will get a winter holiday instead this year assuming I get fixed up soon.

Meanwhile the credit card balance continues to rise with such frivolities as food and diesel for the car to go to interviews etc!

no you wouldnt if you got the chance to go on a break you would.

I think its pathetic this rule, so say a person is made redundant and has some money they cant go on holiday. Everyone deserves a break.

If you read the post, the OP has been 'jobless' for 6 months and counting - if you're in that position, you most certainly shouldn't be going on holiday if JSA is involved at any point.

Maybe my standards are different - but I couldn't ever go on holiday if I had to claim JSA, knowing there are always pub/restaurant/shop/factory jobs to be had.
