having problems with the forums

Hi - I hope someone can help me. I seem to be having problems connecting to the forums recently. I can do a couple of posts then when I click on another thread it comes up with an page not found sort of error in Internet Explorer and can't refresh or get on to the forums at all.
I have today tried with Mozzilla/Firefox and am having the same problems. - it came up with an error message saying it can't get a connection with the server.
Anyone else having these problems? It is very intermittant - sometimes it is o.k and sometimes not. It usually lets me reply to a couple of threads before it gives up and then 5 minutes or so later I can get back on again.
I am sure I have a firewall, anti spyware,anti virusware etc on the laptop.
Can anyone help
P.s I will try and reply to any Q's but it is difficult with such an intermittant connection. It only seems to be on the forums on here - no other websites although they are not forum based.

Is it a firewall/proxy issue? Mozilla thinks it might be?
Is it because I don't have the latest adobe plugin?
A caching issue?
I appreciate it's not a quick answer but if anyone can tell me what to check for that would help.
