caravan insurance claim

 i have rcently put a claim in to insurance company for awning damaged during recent storms. i originally purchased caravan from a dealer, with awning included. i was able to provide receipt of purchase, but explained to the insurance company that there was no mention of the awning on the receipt. they told me this didn't matter. i also provided 2 quotes from reputable companies stating that awning was beyond reapir, and costs for a new one - exactly same as the old one. these quotes were for around £450.
the insurance compnay have come back with an offer of £136!!
they state that because i cannot provide proof of age of awning, they have deducted 50% plus £100 excess. they have stated that if i have photos of the awning to prove it's state before damage, then they may rethink their offer. unfortunately i'm not one of those people who takes photos of posessions 'just in case'!
is this a fair offer from the insurance company? or should i dispute it?
i did say to them that if proof of purchase/condition was so important, then why was that not explained to me before i started paying premiums??

Hi there
If I were you, I would go back to the original supplier of the caravan and get them to write you a note on their own headed paper to say that they sold you the caravan with an awning included. Make sure the letter includes the make of awning, then send it to the insurance company and tell them to put that in their pipe and smoke it (or something a little more polite such as "will this do?")In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0
