Beware of cold calling from Southern Electric
I've just been cold called by 2 lads from Southern Electric
"Hello Sir, we're wondering why you haven't moved to a lower tariff"
"How do you know what tariff I'm on?"
"We supply your provider with electricity - who is your provider?"
"Yes, but you don't know what tariff I'm on with my provider"
"I'ts my job to know - who is your provider? I know that if you are with British Gas, you are paying 6.4p/therm, whereas everyone in this street is only paying 4.1p"
"But you don't actually know tariff I''m on. My provider has several tariffs"
"I know you are paying too much. Who is your provider" etc etc
I thought this sort of practice had stopped after NPower getting pulled up. Mind you, anyone not completely on the ball could easily be caught.

Sounds like the same sort of rubbish they come out with around this way.
"We supply your provider with electricity - who is your provider"
They told me they are the regional supplier for my area and they then supply my provider with the electric. Well, EDF are my regional suppliers and I'm with Scottish power dual fuel.
I hate door knockers with a passion, Souther Electrics are the worst offenders IMO although Npower arent a lot better.
The guy was really aggressive too and didnt like the fact I knew more about my electricity supply than he did. I straight away got on the phone to people I know in the area and told them not to answer the door to them.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Unfortunatly registering with the TPS doesnt stop people knocking on the door though!!Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
I had 2 lads come round doing the same thing a month or so ago, I have a sign on my door that says "No cold callers", these 2 had the cheek to try this on with me:
"Hello are you Mr Dave K?"
"I might be. Who are you?"
"Don't worry it's not anything serious (showing me a Southern Electric pass of some kind)" (I wasn't worried!)
"We've had a problem at the billing department for your Gas and Electricity supplier and we'd like to check your customer number."
"You've got to be kidding me, you must also be blind it quite clearly says NO COLD CALLERS (pointing to sign on door)" DOOR FIRMLY SHUT
With hindsight I should have called their bluff and tried to get their details so I could report them, this kind of crap might work on old ladies but not me.0 -
If they're asking for your customer number, it sounds more like an attempt at identity fraud than anything else! Sadly there are lots of people out there who will let them in and give them the information they ask for.0

Sorry, I thought the sellers had phoned the OP
Even better when people call at the door, invite them in, make them a tea or coffee whichever they prefer, and sit them down in front of one or two of the comparison/cashback sites as given in the resource bar above and then enquire as to why they are trying to flog a dead horse"Now to trolling as a concept. .... LOL yeah, if theres one person that hates comparison sites more than Cardew its a Southern Electric salesman!
They hate the very mention of comparison sites saying things like "they dont have every tariff" and "they just make things up based on who pays the highest comission" which of course is absolute rubbish, most salesman will only be signing you up to their standard tariff anyway so its them that dont have all the tariffs.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
