CApping prices

after watching MSE martin on gmtv this morning, I'm thinking of capping my energy prices... i'm currently with Brit Gas for gas and elec. Pay £34 for gas pcm and £20 for elec, direct debit. To go with them capped till Dec 2009, this would increase to£38 pcm gas and £22 pcm for elec - is it worth it? are the energy prices…

The Scottish Power web site seems to imply that they can do these deals by purchasing the gas/electricty in advance themselves. Im sure its not quite as straight forward as that but maybe that partly explains how they can offer capped prices and still make a profit when the wholesale price goes up
