Please help - bill for £1200
Help
Just received bill from NPower for £1200 (this is for use from Dec to June this year apparently). The reason that it's so high is that we installed a couple of storage heaters in our loft. We had no idea they were going to be that expensive!
We have been paying direct debit of £85 quite merrily, with no word from NPower about excessive usage.
Now we've been landed with this bill and they're telling me they won't reduce it.
There's no way we can pay it, but regardless of that is it right for them to suddenly land us with it when we've been paying by direct debit?
We live in a small terraced house, so we're absoutely flabbergasted at the cost.
Is there anything we can do to try and get NPower to reduce it do you think?

Last time I was billed £700+ for about 3-4 months which is impossible. We usually pay about £60 a month. So I called up npower to ask them to check the meter again. Also reassure them this is impossible. Finally they come up with the new bill of £200+. They are such stupid....wasting my time and money to give them a call (the number to call isnt free). After that I changed to British Gas and have no problem so far.0

You decided to install the heaters. You decided to use the heaters. The heaters consumed electricity. Guess who now has to pay for that electricity consumed.
... or maybe you would like us to have a whip round for you?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Is this bill based on actual meter readings? How many kWh does it say that you have used over this period? Have you read your meter yourself?

What tariff are you on? Do you have E7 or E10 or just a standard tariff? Electric heating is expensive even on an economy tariff. How much did you have these storage heaters on?

The amount that you have been paying does not necessarily relate to the amount of electricity that you are using?

If you have used the electricity, why should they reduce your bill? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
