Nissan Key Replacement

Hello everyone,

Yesterday my mother had her handbag stolen which had her car keys inside. I've found her spare key for the car but she obviously would like to get a replacement for the set that was stolen.

Having just got of the phone to the Nissan dealer they have informed me that to replace this stolen key (for a Nissan Micra C & C) it will cost £200!!!!!

Does anyone know how I can get a replacement key for mum's car which is cheaper?

Thank you so much in advance for any help or suggestions.

Best wishes
Roni

Think yourself lucky, I have one key for my 1996 Renault Megane
    and a replacement cost's around £300

Not sure if you can get a key from anyone else as it probably
needs to be programmed by Nissan to match the car.

  • how old is the car

You can take the key apart, take the alarm transponder out and leave it taped near to the ignition, then just get another key cut without worrying about the electronic part

You will need to tell the insurance company that you have no immobiliser

As i dont know the age im not sure if you have one of these proximity doo dars

Might be a better idea to change the locks altogether if her address was written on anything that was in her handbag at the time.
  • Many thanks to those of you that have replied, I'm ever so grateful.

Thankfully the car, which is about a year old, was no where near where she had the bag stolen. I'm pretty sure that she didn't have anything in the bag that had her address on - thank goodness!!

I was rather hoping that you could go to a "car locksmith" who could do a similar service as the dealer but for cheaper! I'm still very shocked that to replace a key costs so much!!

I'd suggest 'phoning around a couple of Nissan dealers, seeing if you can get the price any lower. My experience of Nissan dealers is that prices can vary quite a bit between them...
  • You could check your house insurance, some cover loss of keys and property away from the house, if so, they should replace your missing keys for the excess on your policy;)
  • Thanks to everyone once again! Your responses have been most helpful!
