Tea and coffee home office

As I am a Ltd, I have read that it is perfectly exceptable for my company to provide refreshments (eg tea and coffee) to my employees - anyone use this? Do you need to keep receipts?

Of course this is acceptable. You would need to keep receipts - presumably it would be paid from petty cash.

It's amazing what you can legitimately claim as a small business working from home. However need to be careful with insurance and council as if they deem your home a commercial premise you get hit by higher insurance and rates!

Don't forget you are not claiming anything - you are making a ddeduction in your accounts for business expenses. It does not matter where the business is based - the rules are still the same - all expenditure relating to the business must be shown in the accounts. It's your business and you decide that is necessary expenditure.

I'm so glad the OP brought this up, it's something I thought of a while ago and forgot to ask.

I don't employ anybody at home, but I do have the occasional visitor who I have to make a cuppa for.

Can I claim for the odd box of teabags/coffee/sugar/pint of milk when it's only myself? If I was working for somebody else my employer would no doubt provide these!

You are not claiming anything - you are including a deduction in your accounts for business expenses. Business entertaining is not allowable for tax purposes, although I am sure this could be hidden in 'sundries'! Feeding yourself is also not allowable for tax purposes as we all have to eat and drink!

Tried googling more but couldn't find anything - although I know the last company I worked for provided free tea and coffee to it's employees.

Just to add to fengirl's comment .... remember, you are BUYING the tea/coffee in the first place. Let's say that you spend £10 on tea/coffee. That's £10 you now don't have.
