Cursor going mad

I can be sitting at my computer typing when suddenly my cursor moves wildly across the screen clicking on links and bringing up new windows, closing others, nothing suspicious like advertising pops just links on the websites that I am on, and each time it has happened it has been on trusted websites like this one, the most recent event happening 5 minutes ago, sometimes it abates and I get back control of my PC, other times I have no option to reset my PC and start again.
I have even checked to make sure my mouse wheel and buttons are clean and there isn't a loose connection but all appears to be well.
I have ZoneAlarm Security Suite running and all scans haven't turned up anything nasty.
Anyone have any ideas?

Do you have a wireless mouse?A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0

So the mouse is moving on its own opening up windows and closing them? Does it happen when you're offline? tbh that sounds like remote access. Zonealarm wont find a rootkit if your systems been compromised I'd scan for one AVG do a free one don't know how good it is, and try an online scan.
Is it a PS/2 mouse or usb, wired or wireless? It might be the drivers of the mouse. Though if it is I don't think it would be opening/closing windows. You could try unistalling them rebooting and letting windows reinstalling them for you.0 -
If its wireless than change the batteries but to be honest asininity's suggestion is more possible, ive got a wireless mouse and it doesnt move like thatNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

It's not a wireless mouse, I did consider that it could be remote access but there is no pattern to the mouse movements it doesn't appear to be attempting to do something specific.0

I wouldn't worry if its specific or not just rule it out, better safe than sorry.0

I have the same problem and its hell to type as it keeps jumping and clicking on things and mucks up my typing every couple of minutes. Its not a wireless mouse and it is a ps2 mouse and am using it on my laptop. The funny thing it goes fine for my son when he is on his user account but jumps for him when he uses my accou nt. I have thoroughly checked for viruses and spyware and everything is fine and up to date so would appreciate any help.0

Well I did an online trojan scan and nothing came up, but ZoneAlarm kicked in during the scan and flagged up the applet for the online trojan scan as a trojan, I ran the scan a second time and nothing came up and ZoneAlarm didn't react, needless to say I am a bit confused, I haven't had an incident of a wandering cursor since then, but my PC is freezing up and is really slow to boot up.0

I used to have this when using USB mice on an inadequate PC... I'm talking a while back when 'Win 98 had been installed on machines that started life as '95 machines. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0
