Can anyone recommend an idiot proof digital camera? What am I doing wrong with Sony?

I got my blackberry free with a contract a few days ago... so far so good and i really like the built in qwerty keyboard! Must admit the camera is better on the Nokia one you mentioned though.

There is no right or wrong and it is all about choices. The Blackberry is better for web access.

All may not be lost with your graduation photos. I know that one can recover deleted files on a PC and I would have thought a techie may be able to recover deleted files from your camera memory card.

That's an idea... I could post a plea on the techie board but, even if they were recoverable, the fact that they were taken in this weird mode that downloads them as 16 minipics... does that mean that if we got them back on the camera then the camera could 'unscramble' them back again do you think?

Without knowing exactly what you/DH did it is difficult to say. It depends on what resolution the photos were stored at on the memory card? My guess is the photos will be stored at a higher resolution then compressed to display as minipics. On my camera I can take photos then play back as mini pics, slide show or several other options and I guess this is what you have done.

It has to be worth a try at recovery? There are recovery tools available and several companies who can do it for a fee. See here software trial> http://www.recovermyfiles.com/

Please note: If you have used the camera to take more photos, then memory card deleted files will be overwritten and it is unlikely that you will be able to recover.

i doubt it is recoverable as anything but the 16 mini pictures you have.

In the Sony, it is called "Multi Burst" mode..

    Multi-Burst Mode: Captures 16 320 x 240 frames as part of a single 1280 x 960 image

so unfortunately, that's what you have... 320*240 isn't really big enough to print out..

You're right (as ever) Marky! :D A few hours of practising and reading instructions etc helped me to realise that's what dh had managed to do... put camera into multiburst! However, I've just spotted this which might at least help me to store and view the pics onscreen as single shots:

I'm a bit 'glazed over' with all my effort so won't try anything else today but if anyone else comes along with this same problem this might be worth trying.... have any of you wonderful techies ever come across this before? I'm always a bit reluctant to download unknown stuff to my PC but it looks kosher. What does anyone else think?

I'd say you need to keep the camera away from your DH! :rotfl:

My DH is the same! He insisted on hogging the camcorder when were on holiday this year and now most of the film is completely unwatchable as he kept fiddling around with the settings and zooming in and out all the time!(Next year I'm not going to let him get his hands on the camcorder, and he's now got his own (cheap) digital camera so he can mess up his own photos, not mine!)

Seriously though, I'm really sorry about your photos, particularly when it's a one-off event like a graduation, you must be gutted.:(

Exactly which Sony is it? I've got a 7.2MP DSC-W55 and it's got a few features but not too complicated.

Thanks for the commiserations jackie! Fortunately I had taken a few decent pics of our dd's graduation before my dh got his hands on the camera.... needless to say he won't be fiddling with my camera again (he'll be lucky if I let him fiddle with anything else of mine either for a few days at least ;) )! We'll also receive the extremely overpriced by emotionally necessary 'official' photos so all is not complete disaster thank goodness. I remember reading about a couple whose wedding photos ALL went wrong (some time ago before all the friends and rellies brought their own cameras)... I think I would have cried buckets if that were me!

My sony is a cybershot DSC-W70 so 'in theory' should be reasonably straight forward... I just don't personally find it very intuitive to use... I guess we're all different.
