As per tonyhague, or for a nice little bit of software with a few more options try
Gadwin Printscreen 4.3Move along, nothing to see.0 -
As said above the quickest and cheapest is printscreen and then paste in windows paint.
Paintshop pro can take the shots if you've got it. (keep eyes open for coverdisks on magazines, quite often offer the full version of older versions for free).0 -
For anyone wondering how to do it on a Mac:
Command-Shift-3 - Take a picture of the screen
Command-Shift-4 - Take a picture of the selection (lets you drag out a box and then takes a screenshot of the selected area)
Command-Shift-4, then press Control while selecting - Take a picture of the screen, place in Clipboard
Command-Shift-4, then Spacebar - Take a picture of the selected window
The screenshots will be saved to your desktop (unless you copy it to the clipboard).0 -

Or in Finder click GO - UTILITES
and load up the GRAB application, which means you don't have to remember what button to press.. also, it means you can save the picture in different formats!

Thanks, I forgot about that!
I have no problems remembering the shortcuts, but I'm always getting emails and IMs from one friend in particular saying "how do I take a screenshot again?". :rolleyes20 -

If you hold down the ALT key when pressing PRINT SCREEN, you'll capture an image of just the active window, instead of the whole screen.0
