Water Tank
Plasticman
I've been up in my loft today (not somewhere I venture often!) and noticed that my plastic cold water tank doesn't have a lid! The tank feeds toilets, bath and wash basins in the bathroom (not cold water in the kitchen which is straight from the mains). The thought of spiders etc rotting in my bath water doesn't appeal!!!! Should the tank have a lid, and any ideas where I might be able to find one that fits? Is there a 'diy' option?
Thoughts welcome

You could get a cheap piece of ply wood and cut it to size, you can cut out notches etc to allow for the pipe work. That's all ours was (+ insulation on the sides and top to prevent any freezing in winter.)
In my previous address it was similar, was like that for all 27 years I was there. As long as it has got some sort of covering it should be fine.0 -
What shape is your tank? Mine is roound and doesn't have a lid - it should have an insulating cover that is fitted over the top."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

It's a rectangle but with no cover at all................. Sounds like I need to go and buy some ply!0 -
Hi
Look around the tank ,you may find a sticker or the name embossed in the plastic.Buy a lid of the same make that way the lid will fit properly .You need a Bye law 30 kit.
Ply or any wood will rot and attract the very thing you don't want in your water, bugs.
Before Bye law 30 the lids were almost as much to buy as the tank itself hence they were not fitted.

Thanks folks. I will take a look at the tank, but it's probably been there for the best part of 20 years to finding a lid may be a bit optimistic!

Good afternoon...Andrew... check out CORGI TB205
You might be able to access the British Standards site at the public library to view a copy of BS 4213:2004( alternatively if you know anyone currently studying with the OU he/she will have access via the OU online library). You won't find the Water Regs anywhere online gratis.
