bus travel in france

I'm looking for easy travel alternatives in france
I need to travel from Bordeaux to Bayonne around end of august to beginning september
I'm struggling to find an alternative to trains expecting buses to be cheaper
I cant seem to find anything on local bus travel between cities. something equivalent to our National Express
Can anyone help?
Thanks

With very few exceptions (usually based on airports rather than towns) there are no long distance buses in France. SNCF has a monopoly.
  • Have you looked at www.ze-bus.com? The bus route goes through Bordeaux but I don't know where Bayonne is to know if it goes through there. May be worth a look. For some reason the French are not great bus travellers. Ze bus is used by tourists rather than residents!
