Hello,I'm about to move out of my home of all my life due to my mother passing away and was wondering as i am no longer working and receiving Job Seekers, if there was a way of getting a decoration grant or moving grant?
If anyone knows about this i would be grateful of all help
Talk to your council about council/"social" housing? I think that's the way the system works and doubt there are any other grants specifically for what you need.0 -
Hi all,
does anyone know how I find out about funding for computer courses? I dont mean basic courses but the mcse etc as my husband has been going for interviews and is being told that he needs that qualification however we simply cant afford the cost.
any advice would be great!

try here to find a course and ring the advisors about funding etc. they are very helpful.

I am 47 years old and have been offered a University course following a recent period of study. I am in receipt of Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance. Will I be able to claim student loans/grants without my benefits being effected?0

As far as I'm aware you can keep your benefits as long as you declare yourself as a disabled student. I did this in 1995-99 and was also able to claim an allowance for books/travel etc.
though you would need to check if this is still the case0 -
I am 62, unemployed, but have been in facilities management for over 30 years. However, most advertised jobs want membership of the British Institute of Facility Management, which I do not have. However, I believe I qualify for "vocational" membership, as a result of my experience and other qualifications. Unfortunately, BIFM needs almost £200 to assess my application, and I cannot afford same, being on benefits. Nor I cannot find any grants that might help with this small sum. I cannot borrow the money, nor ask anyone, and the Jobcentre and DWP are worse than useless, so any pointers would be most welcome. Well over 1000 applications for jobs thus far, perhaps membership of BIFM will help me get back to work. Fingers X-ed.0

Im 35 and already in the construction industry. Wanting to further my career i want to train as a plumber. RF Training do such a course for the fee of £4,800. I know of the government grants which entitle me to £30 per week but the course only lasts 8 weeks so it will help a bit but i cant afford the rest. Are there any grants or bursaries available to adult learners that are not claiming any benefits etc?0

For anyone living in Scotland, ILA give grant of £200 for a huge variety of courses, including all computer-related courses, such as PCP Passport Units and/or ECDL. For some courses, there is a grant of £500. If you are earning, at the time of writing (2011) you can be earning up to £18,000 and still be eligible for an ILA grant.
I have used ILA every year since 2006 and have taken a bookkeeping course, my ECDL and am now studying Intro to Psychology. Marvellous! :TI don't drink, don't smoke, don't go out - why aren't I rich?
Don't worry, I'm working on it!0 -
i can see lots of government sponsered advisory services for getting people into work (emphasise on advisory). lots of expensive looking websites telling people what they are entitled to.
can the government please shut these down and put these funds they spend on call centre wages on actual face to face training/ caring / support.
even the "bigsociety" does not show how it will get into the homes of those in need. it just seems like another network of people advising other people.
enough of the advisory clubs, groups, organisations. atleast set up a few support grant organisations.
for instance set up a organisation that gives out food stamps to families on low income.
set up grants for house repairs which affect the tennants from actually using their homes in a healthy and safe way.
its easy. get the large gas/electricity/water companies to provide services for free to those in need (receipt of benefit) in exchange of a tax rebate.
i am on job seekers and if my plumbing fail, im stuck. have to buy water from the shop. stop taking showers. walk around puddles of water in the flat i live. as i cannot afford a plumbers bill.
the living allowance should be set for day to day living, but there should also be a emergency grant fund available to cover health and safety issues. such as no access to water, electric, gas, food.
crises loans are for the rich that can afford to pay it back. government would rather set up a website/call centre funding 5000 employees at £200 a week to simply say "sorry we cant help" then to actually provide a £200 grant to 260,000 people a year.
it works out the same costs but the government do see this0
