Lost/forgotten car insurance

My wife and I cannot find our car insurance papers and have also forgotten who we insured the car through.
There are no Direct Debits/ Standing orders or payments on my bank statements.
Is there a central database that insurers use (and public) to find out, by say putting in the car reg and checking. Surely insurance claims inspectors have a means of finding out if a car is insured with two companies.

    Hi -

The MIB run the insurance database and will charge you £10.00 to tell you who your insurance company is.Ring them on 01.908.830001 in office hours for fuller details.

I can understand losing your docs, but both forgetting who you're insured with?!?!?!?

A slightly expensive mistake to make!

If you are not paying monthly then at some point in the last 12 months you would have paid a single amount. A check of you cheque stubs or bank statements should give an indication of when you paid and possibly to whom (if debit card).

If you arranged it online then check your emails as they usually send email confirmations out.

Drive to the police station and ask them to look on their database to see if you are insured:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
