I sold an iPod Mini on eBay about 2 months ago, it was brand new and completely sealed.
I sold it for a bargain really, £124 !
The winner paid in 2 installments, one from him, one from a friend (who he said he'd got permission from).
Now a chargeback claim has been paid on PayPal, the payment made from a friend was apparantly unauthorised!
I have no idea what to do!
Please can someone help!
Thanks.

This is a new one on me and I really can not see a way out of it. Very easy to ask the question:- "why did you allow two payments" after the event. First thing is to contact PayPal and see what they suggest.
Other things to do are contact buyer direct and see what they say, could be a mix up (hmm). If no joy contact EBay and try to get buyer narud!!
But I don't like the sound of this one, for a happy outcome!!!0 -
it's not the first time I've heard this scam - ring paypal, they're generally quite helpful, however you may find you've just lost 50% of your ipod.
Next time say 'your friend can pay you, then you pay me, or I relist in 5.4.3.2.1...'Tim0 -
Just spoke to the auction winner, he said his friend HAD given him permission but didn't realise he was using it PayPal account, he thought he was using his credit card.
So when it showed up on his statement he contacted PayPal and his bank.
What they want me to do is, accept liability through PayPal, let them get their money back, and then he says he'll pay me back.
I don't really want to do that incase he never pays me!
Any idea people?:: No Links in signatures please - Edited by Forum Manager ::0 -

if you've sent the item then i'd get him to pay you and THEN you accept liability through paypal and the other amount can be claimed back. if you haven't sent it then accept liability and tell them you'll post on receipt of the second payment from the right person."Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." (Mark Twain)0

It's been over 2 months since he's had the item..
And I can't accept liability now as I've sent a message in my defence.
But the story has changed since then so I'm not sure what to do!:: No Links in signatures please - Edited by Forum Manager ::0 -

Why has the story changed? That sounds distinctly dodgy to me.Ebay~ A wretched hive of scum and villainy.0 -
Well now he's saying his friend thought he was using his credit card, not his PayPal account.
When the "friend" saw his statement, he called his bank!
Now the winner has spoken to the "friend", and explained.

The plus point is they are talking to you which is a good sign. I would keep calm and see if you can work it iut with them. You might be pleasantly surprised.0
