American Express - Problems

I have just applied for and received the American Express 3 months 5% cashback card.

So far they input my adress wrongly so the first card went to the wrong house - which I only found out by phoning up because the process seemed to be taking too long. I then had to suggest to them that they cancel the first card and send me another. All this despite my initial form plus bank statement and utility bill - all showing the correct address.

Secondly they input my mothers maiden name incorrectly so I cannot activate the card for online use.

Has anyone else had problems. I am about to cancel my card.

I've actually had a great experience with Amex. Card and PIN arrived reasonably promptly, online system is very clear & easy to use, and their customer services have been really good so far. In fact I'm so impressed that I will probably continue to use them even after the 5% has expired. Sorry to hear you have had a bad experience though.
  • I have had no problems. Got two cards on the 5% deal, one for me and one for the OH.

Statements are fine and we can see who spent what, so he can pay me back.

Only trouble is the 5% back seems to make me want to spend more.

No problem with Amex here. I have found them to be first class.

I've recently got one too and cant say anything bad about the experience to be honest. I didn't get an instant decision online but got a call a few days later to say my application had been successful. Cards arrived quickly and were activated without any trouble. Haven't had my first statement yet but I can see the spending online and everything looks good so far :)

Thats why they offer it - they know that you are likely to make more purchases than you would otherwise to benefit from the 5% cashback. A psychological ploy really.
