Wardrobe/drawer smelly things

Can't find on a seach thru o/s, but is there an alternative that can be made as opposed to the overly priced packet/sachet things you buy?

Thought I might find some 'recipes' in the home made gift section, but no joy. Any suggestions please . Thank you.

My mum used to sew up little pouches, usually from old pillow cases, and fill them with dried lavender, smells amazing for so long. If you close the pouch with a draw string then you can tie the string over a clothes hanger to keep your clothes smelling lovely! Or just pop them in you sock drawer.

  • I have made little sachets of dried lavender and I have also use pot pourri in my little bags, or little pieces of highly scented soap (you know the bits tht are always left over from a bar of soap and left in the bathroom), Cedar chips are brilliant if you can get them because they keep the moths away!
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

When I get given a gift in one of those little organza bags I fill the bag up with dried lavender. You can buy bulk dried lavender on ebay, I recently bought a 500g bag cheaply. Because it's so light, that's a lot of lavender! I keep it in an airtight glass jar in a cupboard.

In a magazine the other day there was a top tip to use those perfume strips you sometimes get in magazines. Bargain!

The popcorn packaging in gift sets and packaging from Lush makes lovely room fresheners as it absorbs some of the fragrances. I left a box of the popcorn in my spare wardrobe and it was fab everytime you opened the door. My 16yr old son is also filling socks with it at the moment to stuff in his stinky slippers (his idea not mine). Could also use those washing powder tablet bags to fill with it.

Years ago, I remember me having a kids annual that told you how to make a pomander using oranges and cloves. I've had a quick google search and it gives several ways, this is one of them.

  • Re - kindling an old thread!

There are musty smells in our fitted wardrobes, but no sign of damp/condensation on the wood.

They are fitted against an external wall, which has air bricks fitted on the dpc. I have recently cleaned these out as there was a build up of dust and gubbins.

Would it be fair to assume that the smell is caused by a lack of ventilation, and the solution would be to declutter the wardrobes and leave the doors open all day when we're at work and close them when we go to bed at night?

Opening the doors will certainly help, along with opening the windows every day as well.

Also I would recommend a nutradol air freshener. It absorbs smells rather than gives out a smell IYSWIM We used one when we dropped a pintbof milk onto carpet.!
