New Job, no £££££ ......

Started my new job 3 weeks ago and we are suppossed to be paid every Friday. 3 Fridays have now passed and still nothing, my managers keep saying that `the systems` have been down..... blah, blah.

It is a reputable hotel chain and i`m getting abit infuriated now. Simply because I came off benefits for this job.

I have hardly any money to last yet another week..... Some of my team members have been paid and they started the same time as me. So it`s driving me mad.

Talked to my bosses who are passing me around between each other and don`t seem to be taking this seriously.

Also the bloomin tax office..... sent off my working families tax credit application and haven`t heard anything from them yet either. Got on the phone to them yesterday and they kept saying .. we will be writing any day now !!!!

I just feel like going:

If you have no money to live on you might be able to get a Crisis Loan from the Social Fund.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • I had this with a well known ladies clothing outlet who has the same name as a severe wet weather condition.

I ended up having to threaten them with small claims court and I effectively lost my job - but then there were more issues than that.

DONT take this rubbish from them. Sit down with the manager and tell them you want answers and your pay. Check your contract. If your contract says you get paid weekly then you point out that they're actually breaking their side of the contract and that contract is bound by the law.
Ask why others have been paid and you haven't. If they don't know, you tell them you'll wait here 'til they find out. Theres no excuse.
Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]

Sometimes problems can happen at the start but three weeks is pushing the bounds of credulity. I would demand a 'sub' of at least two weeks of expected pay until they get your pay sorted out. If they are reputable they will be able to organise this ... I am surprised they did not suggest this in the first place.

I had this with a well known Building Society...(churchy-type name!). I felt such a fool having to practically beg them to do something to sort things out....all they kept saying was 'it will be sorted eventually'. I was in the same position as yourself having come off benefits and being single had no one to help me out financially in the meantime. It was a nightmare and I eventually contacted the Crisis Loan people who dismissed me with the words 'can't your family help out'!!

In the end I had to make a real fuss in order to get an advance on my expected pay. It was all very humiliating at the time. As Ivan says...insist that they arrange a 'sub'.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Managed to get through to the `big boss` who said that they would investigate it this afternoon and get back to me asap, but to hang tight as they are pretty busy.

They then offered a cash sub, which I need to pay back once my wages are through. and said they`d bring it round to my house.

Well, its now 6:18pm and this conversation took place at around 11:30am. No call or home visit.

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I`m in work tomorrow, so shall be getting my !!!!!! out *not literally* then !!

i seem to be lucky as any time i have had problems with my wages, my pay gets sent to my work as a cheque, which my work give to me as cash.
As has been said before just keep on at them, you may not like it, but you've worked for that money.
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

Liz, I know this is not what you want to hear but I would say you may be in for some trouble. Hotels are notorious for treating staff like dirt, especially as most hotels tend to employ foreign staff (not all legally in the UK) who may not speak much English and don't know their rights. Any hotel would have cashflow with which to pay you a cash advance, so there's no excuse for keeping you waiting for so long.

Obviously you could sue them and get not just your wages but any interest you incur as a result of having to borrow money to live on. But then you currently have no protection against unfair dismissal so they would just sack you on some pretext.

I admire you for standing on your own feet and getting a job rather than live on benefits. But I think you should keep looking for another job as you might need one if this turns out as I fear.
Eh?? I give up!! Towel is getting thrown in here! :D
  • had something similar happen to me a few years back. I worked for a well know psychic who does television appearances (italian sounding name). She still owes me money only because i moved to N.I. to be with my partner i let it drop on his advise as he's in the legal profession (wont say what he does) but had the circumstances been different i would of taken her through he small claims courts and named her in the papers as a warning for anyone else thinking of working for her. She's obviously not a very nice person but at the time i really needed the money as i'd had to give up a job due to poor health but i was lucky as my partner came through for me so it all worked out for the best really in the end, she did me a favour but if things had been different i wouldn't of let it drop. She still wastes her money sending me rubbish thorough the post which my new tenants now don't bother sending on to me, they have my full permission to open it and bin it. I really hope you manage to get this sorted out, must be a terrible worry for you. One thing, have you considered going to CAB and asking them for advise? The only thing is thought the company may make things difficult for you so be prepared for that.

This is doing my head in. Sounds like a severe weather condition - Storm? Hurricane? Thunder? Hailstones?

Churchy type name??? Cathedral? Choir? Vicar? Manse?

Italian sounding psychic? Mystic Megetto? Madame Pizza?

For the first one, think tropical rain season, the second is what Westminster has in common (ish) with Ms Titmus but I haven't a clue about the psychic.
