Jobseekers Allowance between college and uni

I am currently looking for a summer job between now and when I start uni at the end of October. As I've been on holiday for two weeks, most jobs have been snapped up.

I've spent 3 days looking but it will probably take at least a week to find something.

Child benefit and tax credits to my parents stopped about 2 weeks ago and it is a bit of a struggle trying to manage.

Is it possible to claim Jobseekers Allowance whilst I am looking? Even one week of JSA could be very useful.

Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure you are not entitled in that case.

Keep trying in the job front. Maybe go in and ask in every shop/restaurant, even if they haven't advertised? My 16 yr old dd got one this way. Don't turn anything down as it's only temporary and money is money.

In the meantime, try and help around the house and garden so you are at least giving your parents 'something' for your keep.

Thanks bestpud - thought that may be the case.

I have literally tried every shop round here - but having such a large university in the same town doesn't really help.

The Co-Op have a job advertised (they've had it advertised for months) but it is just a few hours at the weekend. Not sure whether to go for this as I would rather have something full time and not have to work during the uni term.

If you have made enough contributions you can get jobseekers. I did it but I was going through clearing so not sure if I would be working or at university in that september and I was living with my parents at the time.

wouldnt have thought you would be entitled to this as surely all students would be doing this
but the easiest way to find out would be to just pop along to your local jobcentre and ask them.
good luck with the job front, i know how fustrating it is looking!

Technically I'm not actually a student, because I officially left college 3 weeks ago and I haven't yet registered with a university (this is done in September).

I'm going to the Job Centre on Tuesday, so I'll be asking them when I'm there.

You can apply online too, if you are going down that route.
