Recommendations to prevent divorce !!!

Me and OH can never agree on what we want from a holiday, so I thought the good people of MSE might be able to come up with some suggestions to keep us both happy.

What we both want ... self catering, but with the option to eat somewhere nice, good exchange rate, preferably less than £1000 for 2 weeks (flights and any car hire included)

What we both don't want ... cruise, 18-30 holiday type places

What I want ... somewhere warm (>19C), fairly quiet, able to sit out in the evening with a glass of wine without having to put several jumpers on, swimming pool

What OH wants .... not too hot (<25C), air conditioning, internet access, TV with some English speaking channels (in other words he'd just like to stay at home).

The only place we've come up with so far is Florida . I should say we're thinking of going either Oct/Nov or Jan/Feb.

Should have mentioned, not anywhere that needs a boat or bus trip to get to, OH gets VERY motion sick. Just thought of another one for OH ... needs to be able to put loo paper down the toilet and not in a bin by the side.

    Dubai.
That is a difficult brief. I could say Mexico but too many hurricanes in the last few years and I don't want to be cited in the divorce. :D
    St.Lucia?

I would suggest for those dates Cyprus and the Canaries which would seem to fit the bill for both of you with budget, self catering, temperature and English being spoken! Although there are good deals further afield, like Florida as you said. Greece is starting to cool down considerably in October and certainly not recommoneded in January (and you need to put the loo paper in separate bin) but Cyprus & Canaries are OK then but better in Oct/Nov. Good luck. You might want to take a look at last minutes to places like Thailand which may fit the bill as well - long haul, not necessarily self catering but might be worth it. Look in Sunday supplements for ideas.

Nearly forgot - do take a look at Red Sea resorts in Egypt for those dates too. English widely spoken and temperatures good but not too hot, self catering or hotel, good value for money and won't need hire car.

How about Sri Lanka? Warm all year round but not too hot, English spoken, some terrific luxury hotels at very attractive prices. Long flight though.

The warmer parts of Switzerland. Rent an apartment with a balcony and a view over a lake.

Madeira or Sharm El Sheikh- been to both at Christmas and both meet your requirements, except two weeks at either may be too long.

Cape Verde or Gambia as alternatives?

Destinations further away will probably bust your budget.
